ESNA exec has endorsed some downloadable midazolam protocols. The development was supported by Veriton Pharma. We recognise that the protocols may help prescribes during the current COVID19 crisis.
The one-page protocol is designed for prescribers to be able to provide the essential information required for carers to safely administer oromucosal Midazolam 10mg for prolonged /serial tonic clonic seizures. The protocol follows national guidelines SIGN147 and NICE CG137. It is to be hoped that it will prove useful particularly where there is limited access to specialist epilepsy nurses and services. It has been developed because of demand but its launch is timely, as we see more people than ever requiring the additional security of a rescue medication. The protocol is not branded and can be used for either Epistatus or Buccolam 10mg pre-filled syringes. It is relatively quick and easy to use, with both guidance and completed examples available on the web site.
